Q- How long do your clean urine samples last and how should they be stored?

A- Samples should be stored in a refrigerator. If stored for extended periods of time then they should be frozen. The integrity of our samples is ensured by our proprietary vacuum seal. As long as the sample remains in its vacuum seal it may be kept at room temperature away from direct sunlight for days at a time. It will be good for up to six months, in the vacuum seal, if stored in the refrigerator. If frozen in the vacuum seal, it can last for about 1 year. Once the sample is removed from the vacuum seal, it should not remain at room temperature for more than 18 hours. It will keep in the refrigerator, unsealed, for 30 days. In the freezer, an unsealed bag can last up to 6 months.

Q- How should I thaw my frozen urine sample?

A- When ready for use drug free urine samples may brought up to acceptance temperature simply by running under hot water until the temperature strip displays between 90-99 degrees Fahrenheit. After thawing and achieving proper temperature make sure to shake the sample well so that any present particles dissolve completely. The samples should be thawed at a slow and constant rate so as to hinder crystals from precipitating. If crystals do form then the sample may be filtered through a clean white coffee maker filter.

Q- Does transportation affect urine and bacterial viability?

A- Customers often ask about the preferred method of transporting urine samples to the laboratory for culture, and the effect of transport time and storage temperature on the viability of organisms.

To address these questions, the following study was performed: Urine samples with pyuria (n=18) submitted to Antech's Houston laboratory were divided into several aliquots. One aliquot was inoculated immediately onto blood/MacConkey agar and cultured aerobically for 72 hours in the Houston laboratory. The urine aliquots were also placed into 3 tubes: RTT, grey top urine culture tube (Transport Kit), and Copan Swab for transport to Antech's Irvine laboratory, where they were stored at 4-8°C and at room temperature. They were next inoculated onto blood/MacConkey agar for aerobic culture and examined after 24, 48 and 72 hours.

Fourteen urine samples cultured positive for bacteria and 4 were negative. There was no observed effect of storage time, storage temperature, or type of storage tube on these culture results, or on the amount of bacterial growth (light, moderate or heavy).

Conclusion: Based on these findings, we consider that routine transport time does not influence urine culture results.

Q- Is temperature really that important?

A- Temperature is the most important aspect of passing a urinalysis. Testing centers check for proper temperature because keeping the urine at the proper level is one of the hardest things to do when substituting or diluting the specimen. In fact centers rely on temperature as the primary method of checking whether substitution has occurred during testing. Our kit is specifically designed to take care of this. Your body heat in combination with chemically reactive heat pads which attach to the kit will keep the temperature at exactly the level necessary for testing. We supply you with two such heat pads. Only one pad will be used per test, so you will have enough supplies for two testing procedures.

Q- How long will the drug-free urine sample keep its temperature?

A- As long as you have it stored close to your body (under arm pit, inner thigh) the temperature will remain constant. Your body heat and chemical heat pads included with your clean urine kit will maintain acceptable temperature for 10 hours. Q- How can I be sure that the sample temperature is correct ?

A- Included with each sample is a direct read-out liquid crystal thermal strip. This strip is placed on the reservoir and provides "at a glance" assurance that the temperature of your sample is within acceptable range. It should be taped onto the outside of the already preheated sample. You should also be aware that the temperature of the sample may actually be 1-2 degrees higher than what is shown on the thermometer strip.

Q- Do I have to buy the Deluxe Substitution kit to be able to dispense the urine discreetly?

A- No you don't, if you don't mind putting a little extra effort into taking the clean urine sample out, snipping the edge off with a pair of nail clippers and then pouring it in the cup. However, we do not recommend you do this. The samples themselves were designed as refills and to be used with one of our kits. We urge you to consider investing in one of our Deluxe Substitution kits for a guaranteed way of beating a drug test or drug screen. These substitution kits simulate the act of natural urination, fooling even those who may be looking directly at you through two way mirrors or video monitoring. The Miniature Substitution kit is a very discreet and bulletproof way to pass a drug test.

Q- Do you provide urine from both genders?

A- Yes of course, because different applications (other than drug testing) may require one to use urine from a specific gender. When ordering you will be provided with a choice for your particular needs.

Q- How do I know this urine is clean?

A- Our donors undergo a routine urinalysis systematically to check for any illegal and controlled substances. The test also makes sure that the urine is disease free. BUT REMEMBER URINE IS A BIOHAZARD therefore it should be handled with care and absolutely NEVER taken internally.

Q- Is there a difference between animal and human urine?

A- Yes, screens for example test for lgG which is a normal unique component of human urine. Unlike Creatine, human lgG is exclusive to human body fluids and is not present in any other liquids or animal urine. Consequently, if lgG is not present or cannot be detected in a urine sample, the sample is taken to be either non human urine, or one which has been diluted or otherwise contaminated by addition of an adulterant. The answer is therefore if you need human control samples then you will have to buy human specimens.
